Impact of Digital Transformation
The main agenda for the webinar was the impact of digital transformation, work profile for a manager today, and the COVID disruption. He explained how the manager today is mostly focused on administrative coordination and control and only 10% of the time is focused on innovation and strategy. Examples of cases of companies such as Nokia, Blackberry, Kodak, and Yahoo were given, explaining how the companies became obsolete and what was common between them. An overview of new technologies such as Robotic Process Automation, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Blockchain, Big Data, and Smart Devices was provided and how these technologies are growing rapidly and creating a global impact was explained. He explained these concepts with an example of connected cars which with the help of machine learning are changing the perception of driving by improving safety, connection, and performance of cars. How big data is changing the marketing industry by analyzing customer data. Towards the end, he explained how the Covid-19 disruption has led to an increase in the adoption of digital technologies such as in the education and digital payments industry. Mr. Mutsaddi also highlighted how technology is important for managers and how we should continuously try to learn about new technologies.
Don’t get stuck on the treadmill, standardize and simplify processes, be aware of mundane tasks in your job, and try to outsource your tasks to bots with the help of automation. Focus on strategic decision making as the traditional decision-making process is changing, use a 360-degree view of information. There is a constant fear of technological obsolescence, so there should be more emphasis on digital disruption as in the future you will be working on technologies that are not yet invented. He also explained the importance of human interaction in an organization. He concluded the session with an informative QnA and discussion with students.
