Online Session- Product management by Harinder Suri

Online Lecture Sessions

SIDTM Alumni relations team together with the Acads team has launched an initiative to keep the students connected with the industry and also learn about the latest industry trends via online lecture sessions. SIDTM has a rich base of over 2300+ alumni working in various organizations across the world. The first of such a session was conducted on April 24th, 2020 by Mr. Harinder Suri, from the batch of 1999-2001.

Mr. Harinder Suri is currently the Head Marketing at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. He initially started as a product manager at Reliance Communications after which he has been a part of companies like Tata TeleServices Ltd., MTS – Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd. He has over 19+ years of experience in Telecom Industry, with varied experience in Telecom Sales, Product Management & Marketing roles and has also worked in verticals of product both prepaid & postpaid (Voice, Data Acq);( Voice Data U&R); Device Management, VAS, Enterprise Sol, Internet Service Providers, Roaming, Business Planning, Mcommerce under Mobility, Wireless and Wireline Business areas.


Mr. Harinder was invited to give an Online Guest Lecture to give us his thoughts about Product Management. The overview of the lecture contains the Approach, Product Strategy, various roles that this field offers, product execution, product market, and some questions, which were asked by the students. He highlighted the approach is not only important but also a crucial part of product management. One can have a varied approach when it comes to the start of designing the product. The product would be classified in one of the three types: Physical, Digital and Hybrid. He mentioned three core pillars namely Strategy, Execution and Market during the presentation. Which actually does summarize the route from planning to end result. Giving emphasis on mission, vision, and making sure the daily objectives are not only aligned with the former but also are achieved on a daily. The product roadmap, market segment category, product differentiators, competitive analysis are imperative for the company and are important aspects that a product manager should look into.

He gave us insights on how this time of lockdown has changed the market drastically, there are pros and cons for the drastic change; he mentions it is on us how we adapt to this change will also ensure the career success in the near future.
